Even During Black History Month ‘Tied To Greatness’ Focuses On Black FUTURES
The Organization Teaches Men Self Image Improvent through symbolism of a necktie
With so much emphasis especially during the month of February on Black HISTORY it begs the question what are we doing about the Black FUTURE?
Shout to Lyphe (Loyal inhabitant of the Highbrid Nation Since 2006.) He sent me this link to this organization called Tied To Greatness. They attempt to answer this question with their national outreach program “tied” around a a self-image improvement effort targeting at-risk minority males. “We intend to foster self pride in these young Men of Color so they will recognize the power of their self – image, and ultimately, make better life choices by implementing the following strategies” their website boast.
The program centers around a single ideology with much greater purpose: by teaching participants to “tie a tie” as a ritualistic right of passage which will ignite personal pride in appearances and build inner self esteem.
Its a really dope concept. Black history is cool and all…I’m a strong believer that we don’t know where we’re going if we don’t know where we came from but its programs like these that insure that our future have some place TO go.
