BUSINESS MATTERS: Viral Video Giant, will.i.am signs on with Radar
A win win for both parties
Yesterday (Wednesday) Black Eyed Peas front man, will.i.am and Tiny Pictures announced a partnership deal. Tiny Pictures is the development unit behind Radar, an up-and-coming moblogging (mobile blogging) community. If you’re not familiar with moblogging don’t feel bad. Its a network of technology that allows you to blog with pictures, video and text right from your mobile phone. Its enabled bloggers to update in real time from the scene of a breaking story.
Hoping to differentiate themselves from this blossoming and niche, Radar’s association with will.i.am, the recognized innovator in viral video will put them on the map next to leaders like Twitter. “New media is fucking dope” the black eye’d cornball said when asked about the partnership. Initial reports indicate the project will take users on a behind the scene journey through will.i.am’s life.
Honestly I gotta give a salute to the folks that pulled this deal off. Although I wouldn’t consider will.i.am to be a major endorsement coup, his ability to embrace new web 2.0 type media and cutting edge technology makes him an ideal fit for the genre. His Barack Obama viral video alone took The Nation by storm. Although I’m not going to run and buy his album I do respect his gangsta.
