MARKETING MATTERS: Mary J. Blige Does Chevy
But does it work
Mary J. Blige is Hip Hop’s premier diva. She’s gone from being a distressed and drug induced singer to a marketable brand that represents a positive female black image. Although this new respect can be more stressful than the later she has definately handled it in stride. Following up her succesful partnership with Apple iPod she kicked off a brand new campaign with Chevy during the Grammys.
I can’t say, however that it will be as successful and to no fault of her own. The creative team in charge of the campaign has some explaining to do. Mary looks great as always but why the choice of “Just Fine?” Its a strong single yes but the song speaks to her being happy with life as is. With so many Mary records that scream “I want more!”, wouldn’t it be wiser to chose one of them to help you sell a Malibu? I don’t know, maybe I’m being to picky.
