QUEENS SIT DOWN…Ether is Dead! Why Nas’ “Nigger” Statement is Useless
Nas shows his ass on the Red carpet

Now That’s a Political Message!
Pardon me 4PL but I feel my thoughts on the issue were too long and too frustrated to be confined to commentary section on your post, I needed some editorial room to breathe on this one.
I, like 4PL am not a big fan of these awards shows but wanted to sneak a peak at the red carpet show to see if there was something I could pick out that might entertain The Nation over this morning’s coffee. While watching the E! interview Fergie, I spotted Nas over her shoulder as he entered the red carpet off in the distance. Initially I was impressed by the statement, its succinct, witty, shocking, political and makes a whole lot of people feel uncomfortable. PERFECT! Its shock value is reminiscent of Tommie Smith and John Carlos raising their fist adorned in black leather gloves in the 68 Olympic medal ceremony.
One problem though. Smith and Carlos knew what they were demonstrating, they understood the Civil Rights movement and the statement they were trying to make. No interviews were needed and if they were they didn’t sound like they had no clue thus rendering their message useless. Sometimes the message is strong enough and doesn’t require commentary. Especially when you’re a stupid as Nas.
Nas you had the correct platform, The Grammy’s! the right message, “Nigger” even the right month, Black History. I understand your point but you can’t articulate it. By doing so you render the message useless. Let the shirt stand on its own if you need, get you publicist to write up a statement. Hell let Kelis take a stab at it. I get it, you really don’t care any political message. You’re using “Nigger” and “Hip Hop Is Dead” as a creative means to an album sale ends. But if you’re going to “be creative,” or “be political” you gotta expect that someone’s going to ask you a question about it and next time be prepared with a better answer.
Oh and voting for the candidate who will extend black people’s Right to Vote?! I’m sure most of The Nation has heard about this through email forward. Lets smarten up people. This is rooted in internet ignorance. And Nas showed his ass on national television. Allow me to clear this up once and for all.
The Voting Rights Act is a permanent federal law. In fact the equal right to vote regardless of race or color is protected by the Fifteenth Amendment. Heard of it?! Its been around since ohhhh THE END OF THE CIVIL WAR! Our courts have held that the right to vote is fundamental.
What needs to be renewed are some provisions of the Voting Rights Act needed to be renewed including the pre-clearance requirement of Section 5, the authority to use federal observers, and some of the statute’s language. Congress amended and strengthened the Voting Rights Act in 1982 and extended these minor provisions for 25 more years–until 2007– when the current congress did the same.
So since you you’re voting for the unidentified candidate who will so called “ABOLISH this thing that doesn’t allow black people to vote after 23 years” you might want to choose Obama or Clinton. As members of Congress, they along with their EDUCATED colleagues, voted to extend these clerical provisions that for some reason you’re so concerned about. YOU’RE A DUMMY NAS! Given the opportunity and the vehicle, its a shame, we always mess it up. QUEENS SIT DOWN!

I have to agree he did sound like a dumb ass when he could have made a brilliant statement that could have captivated the whole night and would live on in award show infamy similar to Old B’s “All the artists are good artists but Wu-Tang is for the Babies” comment but he effed it up.
When S Dot pinged me last night to tell me about this I thought it was cool. Just imagining everyone on the red carpet cringing at the site of Nas’ shirt. Then I caught the footage on CNN and was thinking “Nas is a dumbass”. Seriously, Nas will vote for whoever fixes that mythical “thing” that will cause black people to lose their right to vote in 23 years? Come on man. Troops are seperated from their families putting losing lives on some BS, the economy is horrible and gas prices are out of control and the most important thing to Nas is that black will “lose their right to vote in 23 years”. I thought Nas was smarter than to believe the crap he reads in email forwards. Next thing I know he’ll be telling us how Obama is Muslim and how Bill Gates will give 200 dollars to everyone using Hotmail who passes on certain chain letters.

“One problem though. Smith and Carlos knew what they were demonstrating, they understood the Civil Rights movement and the statement they were trying to make.”
Ummm, no, they didn’t. They were black racists – as bad as any whites were in that time. They were divisive and wrong
to make the olympics, of all things, about their race.
Completely disgusting that so many hail this racist insult as some kind of sick victory. Absolutely disgusting.

Expalin how they were racist.
Emmit Till Was hanged in 1955 13 years before this so they were kids how do you they saw the incident? Since the end of the Civil War (thats right waaay back then) blacks had been told “things would get better”.
Well that wasnt true but after WW II they heard the same crap. Nothing changed. So by 68 blacks and all those that wanted change got active.
So whats your soluition to slow progress?
..Do nothing, or (in their case)hide behind the wus facade of “I am JUST and athelete”. Remember lots of Minstrel actors(black) were STILL alive when the 60′s hit to them the sons and daughters of slaves this act was revloutionary.
I suppose you perfer good negroes like the Brown Bomber who fought for his country beat a REAL RACIST regimes figurehead…did all that then your gov’t (the one bailing out rich white bankers for making dumb decisons) hounded him for taxes until his death ask any man that knows boxing about Joe Louis, it took all the way til his death in the 80′s for the nation to see him as a MAN.
So again how are these guys racist?
What power did they hold over white people by doing this? What white man was turned away from a job or told his children cant attend “this school”. Ball in ya court.
