Jay-Z’s Next Move Might Be To Have His Own Label With Warner Music /Lyor Cohen
Jigga appears to be in talks with Warner Music Group to start his own label with Lyor Cohen assistance
It appears the Jay-Z is attempting to have a new label by himself to run with the help of Warner Music Group head honcho Lyor Cohen (former CEO of Def Jam Records). Cohen was also instrumental in bringing Jay-Z, as an artist, and Roc-A-Fella to Def Jam.
He and Lyor Cohen of Warner Music are talking about putting together the Carter Music Group (a reference to Jay-Z’s real name, Shawn Carter).
“He wouldn’t mind having a small label for the talent he discovers,” says a source. “He’d let somebody else do the heavy lifting.”
“I would be honored and privileged to work with him again,” says Cohen, who signed Jay to Island/Def Jam when Cohen was there. “Bringing Jay-Z to the Warner Music Group would be a privilege and a coup. I’d do it in a heartbeat.”
