Highbrid Nation Editorial Board Endorses Senator John McCain (Yes a Republican)
Vote Tuesday Feb 5th!
Recently Republicans have been disappointed with the crop of candidates available to choose from when selecting a party nominee. We know none of them will be confused for Ronald Regan and their allegiance to President George Bush is irresponsible and disappointing. Although we understand party loyalty, we expect a legitimate candidate to honestly identify areas in need of change and to express a desire to improve (even if we lived in a utopia which we obviously do not.) It is also extremely disappointing that none of the major candidates have a plan for ending the war in Iraq.
However, far and away there is one Republican whose we unequivocally stand behind. The Highbrid Nation editorial board recommends that our republican readers select Senator John McCain as their nominee for the 2008 presidential election.
Senator John McCain of Arizona is the only Republican who promises to end the George Bush style of governing. Mr. McCain has a strong track record of bipartisan legislation and in his moderate views appeal to broader spectrum of the American population. Senator McCain’s war experience speaks to his ability to handle the crisis surrounding the war in Iraq. His being outspoken about the maltreatment of prisoners of war says a great deal about its character.
Although his platform is still slightly ambiguous, we are confident that Senator McCain’s vision will become more defined in the next steps of his candidacy for President. Senator McCain is the only legitimate candidate for Republican nomination that we can consider and we hope that you select him as your nominee.

As a soldier who is a veteran of the Iraq war, it has always bothered me that highest ranking person in for the military (Comander in Chief) can end up being someone who know nothing about what it means to be in the military at all. Bush never knew what it was like to be at war and thus acted like the lives of our military were expendable. You can’t say that about MCain. He was a POW and knows first hand the strain wearing that uniform can put on your life and the lives of those around you.
I may not agree with him on many things but I believe he would be a good leader when it comes to defense.
Great point Mike unfortunately, Defense isn’t the only aspect of the office of the presidency.
The win-win situation I am hoping for is that McCain gets the republican nomination, and Obama the democrat.
If this happens, we can rest well with the knowledge that either can do a good job.
The lose-lose situation, of course, is Mitt winning the republican and Hillary winning the democrat.
I am deeply concerned about Mitt’s on-record positions on personal rights and his belief in the nearly-limitless power of the President. If you have any doubts about the danger, check out Mitt’s answers to Boston-Dot-Com back in December of last year:

I have historically been a republican, but after eight years of someone who believes that the Constitution is an inconvenience to be avoided, enough is enough.
Or, to steal the line from the movie “Nixon” – the system can only handle so much damage.
