Oprah Wants To OWN Your Television
Oprah Winfrey has teamed with Discovery Channel to launch a new network
I’m hearing Oprah is planning to launch a new network. At first I was thinking she was pulling a Dame Dash because I could have sworn Oprah launched a channel, Oxygen. Seems like she was only partially involved with that venture and had sold off her shares a while back.
With this new channel the “richest woman in America” will be more hands on. How hands on you ask? The new channel will be called “Oprah Winfrey Network” or OWN (“O” how we love to stroke our ego). It will replace the Discovery Health Channel in your program listings. The network will mostly cater to women but will have family oriented programing as well as some stuff for men. As for actual shows, nothing has been anounced. Don’t expect any rap videos. Oprah hates all rap that is not Kanye West. Chances are we won’t see most of the minstrel show like programing of BET…which is a good thing.

Oxygen sold to NBC a few months ago. They sold for close to a billion dollars if I remember correctly.
I hear she is going to be the chairman and they are currently looking for a CEO. Should be interesting considering the lack of quality TV black people have to watch these days.
Lets hope she can also produce some movies that are of a positive note compared to such movies as Who’s Your Caddy? and First Sunday.
The more I read about it, the less I feel like it will have much content aimed towards black people. Going by the fact that it will replace the Discovery Health channel and the current content of Oprah’s show, I’m guessing it will be more along the lines of “healthy living” but i may be wrong.
I’ve had enough of Oprah. This show is going to be PBS without the donations.
