Jay-Z To Launch Record Label With Apple?
Jay-Z to join forces with Apple, Inc. to form digital record label
According to a report at BoyGeniusReport.com, Jay-Z is launching a record label with Apple.
Rumors of the collaboration have been running rampant for months and the popular BoyGeniusReport blog has reportedly confirmed the venture with a close confident of the former Def Jam President.
The blog says that Beyonce will not be formally involved and that Jay-Z is fully behind the proposed business model.
The official announcement is expected to be made at Macworld Expo 2008.

Maybe Jay was tipping his hand when he said he didn’t want his album on i-tunes because he wanted the whole album sold because it was like a book or a movie…maybe he hinting that albums could be sold wholly digitally but it should be interesting to see if this is in fact true and how it will operate and what artists will choose to sign there…I see this model operating a bit like Koch where artists can more on the dollar of songs/albums sold.
thats wzup, always find the cake schemes
I’d like to hear something official on this. I just find it odd that he would try to distribute solely through itunes after that move he pulled with american gangster. when he said his album needed to be sold as a whole it let me know he doesn’t understand digital distibution at all. selling album as wholes just doesn’t work well and that’s why apple allows people to buy each song seperately. Ill be keeping an eye on this story.
Agreed a little odd that he would now sign a deal with apple after the American Gangster shenanigans but perhaps that was his way of pressing Apple to put a better deal on the table. “Ok you want to do business the hard way? Two can play that game…no iTunes for you!”
Smart move if that indeed is the case.
