Move Over Delorean: The Disappearing Door Is Here
The Rotary Drop Door poised to be the next hot thing in vehicle Door engineering
Remember the DeLorean from Back to the Future how the doors swung upward instead of outward like most other car since the model T? If the movie was intended to be an indication of what the future of whips today might look like they missed the mark. Today we see very few models with those type of doors let alone that run on garbage and used cooking oil.
Well what if instead of swing up your door just disappeared? It may be possible with a new wave in car door engineering hitting the streets soon. Introducing the Rotary Drop Door. Good looks to gizmado and JReid360 for this one. In the video above you’ll see how it works. No longer would you have to worry about your door being struck by an out-of-control whip in the adjacent lane. Now this design is not new but has been featured in concept Lincoln’s Mark VIII vehicles. Its pretty interesting.
