MARKETING MATTERS: Tom Brady the new face of Smartwater
New Investor, Jennifer Aniston, recruits Patriots phenom as spokesperson
I say this all the time, black celebrities, actors and athletes need do a better job of enterprising and building their personal brand image. Their white counterparts have quietly been doing it for years and it has spelled exponential financial gain.
Take Jennifer Aniston, a B rate television actress (at best…granted white males go crazy for her.) She has quietly diversified her career and recently became a major investor in Glaceau’s Smartwater…50 Cent style. Convinced that the brand needed a touch more bravado to add to the image of this EXPENSIVE designer health drink, Aniston used her influence and celebrity network to enlist Patriot’s Quarterback, Tom Brady as its newest spokesman.
The deal is rumored to be between $3m to $5m, but Brady says he drinks Smartwater as an alternative to “sugary” sports products. Is he talking about Gatorade? Come on Tom, their founder just died.
It’s a replacement product that’s better for you, whether I’m working out or for the morning when I wake up, he explained to USA Today. If you’re going to put something in your body, it may as well be something that’s efficient.
Boston wins again.
