Are Tight Designer Jeans Acceptable Hip Hop Fashion?
As Jeans get more expensive, Hip Hop 2.0 wears them tighter and lower. Why?
By a show of hands, how many of the fellas out there right now are wearing designer jeans that cost three figures but you coped them crazy tight so you wear them around your hips and secure them with a belt? Keep your hands raised so I can see. Ok…now I have a question for you all…What are yall thinking?!
Yesterday Dos Un and I were talking about this new fashion trend while on the way to a meeting for our day jobs. We’re in New York City so the weather has turned brick cold out and everyone is transitioning to their winter gear. We took notice of how many school aged kid’s belts actually suspend 2 or 3 inches below their coat line. Its quite a schizophrenic design concept…extra long jeans that drag on the ground and fray but crazy tight around the legs and ankles.
Granted, I’ve never been the one to wear baggiest jeans that will only stay on with a bungee cord, in fact more recently have begun wearing more FORM FITTING jeans. My look is upgraded for my age because its cleaner and more professional as I grow older. This is trend however, is very disjointed.
I was accepting of the wild and crazy shoe game that sprouted with the emergence of Bapes and florescent AF1′s, the jury is still out on the smaller cut graphic tees, I took a pass with the mohawks and the crazy belts buckels but I’ve gotta ask why when it comes to the jeans. As the years have passed, denim has evolved from a staple with the Levi Silvertab days giving way to the more urban brands like Phat Farm, Enyce but now denim jeans are a luxury designer item easily setting back kids a c-note for a pair of Citizens of Humanity, Prohibit or True Religion jeans. So if you invest in such a quality item then why decide to select a size that obviously doesn’t fit? I understand its somewhat an ode to the 80′s but half you kids subscribing to the trend weren’t even around to appreciate that steeze. To steal a term from Dos Un…this is Doo Doo Fashion. Word Up!

naw, not feeling the tight jeans that make your feet look all big.
Yeah they do that as well.
I ain’t feeling the “way too small” jeans dudes is rocking. joints don’t look like it’ll fit their lil sister and they putting them ish on still.
S Dot: You hit the nail on the head with that post. The pants are so tight folk don’t need a belt to keep the pants up in the first place. We all know it isn’t going anywhere. You practically have to peal out of the jeans now anyway.
I wish I had a better picture… this one doesn’t even do it justice.
Definitely can’t feel the tight jeans personally, but whatever works for you. The rockstar look is “in” right now…just another trend that will fade.
Ahhhh…that’s what it is. The Rockstar look.
Rev. Run’s wife calls it “dressing like jim jones” LOL!
hip hop?, it shouldn’t be acceptable in heterosexual male fashion, that shit is just plain bati. Funny thging is it just a world and multiple generations of followers. Just as with saggin’ pants, that means come get my ass man, but followers are followers. Th trend is to dtress like women these days and all the weak minded fall right in line. Thats why the world of fashion exists, follower society

i dont think it should matter that people dress in whatever way makes them feel good about themselves. i just think its ridiculous to waste a fortune on jeans. you can have the same look with much cheaper jeans. finance aside, what does it matter how people dress? if they wanna jock someones style, so what? isnt imitation the sincerest form of flattery?
With jeans priced from $12.00 for a pair of Wranglers to $200.00 for designer jeans and now designer jean stores are opening up from Las Vegas to New York, looks like they are here to stay. Who would ever think the blue jean would get so popular when Strauss started his business?
