We’ve talked about it and even reviewed it but it looks like fans won’t get to…download it. American Gangster, the concept album devised by the mind of Def Jam CEO, Jay-Z will not be available on iTunes. The decision was made to prevent music lovers from purchasing only portions of the album by buying singles. Jay-Z thinks the true genius of the project is in the full experience of the project as a whole.
“As movies are not sold scene-by-scene,” Hov said in a statement, “This collection will not be sold as individual singles.”
I agree with him on this…partly. I think we as a general public have degrading music down to its most basic element, entertainment value. Music is intended to be art and in some instances can only be appreciated as an entire work. HOWEVER, I believe works of art in music now a days are so few and far between that latching on to what’s most amusing is a fair motivation. Jay my advice to you is take what you can get and run. Music sales are so down right now not even the great Hov is exempt from the recession. Collection? its an LP based on a movie relax kid.
