The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the same paper that broke the Tupac noose story that we reported yesterday is now quoting Marcus Hodge, a DeKalb County police spokesman as saying there was no noose was around Shakur’s neck, but rather an orange nylon string with a wooden cross attached. Hmmmmm. Naturally there would be reports refuting the claim now.
The spokeswoman for the Tupac Amaru Shakur Center for the Arts center’s, Versa Manos said the center is standing by the claims in the original press release.
Hodge reports the first incident involved vandals putting underwear on the head of the statue and an orange string was around its neck. Stickers with garbled political propaganda were also placed on the statue and on nearby walls.
Two days later, around 3 a.m., police responded to a suspicious-person call at the center. Police arrested the 37-year-old man who told them he was there “because he wanted to talk to Tupac.” No link to the prior incident had been made.
