Snoop Senteced to Community Servizzle But Denied Request to Work With Children?!

Snoop Dogg will be putting down the mic and, like Naomi Campbell before him, will be picking up a broom and perhaps a paintbrush as part of a court ordered sentence of 160 hours of trash duty in an Orange County, CA park stemming from his Sept. 27, 2006 arrest for possession of a collapsible [...]

Snoop Dogg will be putting down the mic and, like Naomi Campbell before him, will be picking up a broom and perhaps a paintbrush as part of a court ordered sentence of 160 hours of trash duty in an Orange County, CA park stemming from his Sept. 27, 2006 arrest for possession of a collapsible baton in an airport last year. Authorities considered the baton a dangerous weapon, but Snoop claimed it was a prop for a video he was producing in New York. The felony conviction on his record will be reduced to a misdemeanor if the rapper does not break the law for a year.

Snoop had requested that his community service involve working with children, however, prosecutors denied the request. “We don’t want to make a role model out of him,” said Farrah Emami, a spokeswoman for the county district attorney’s office. “The purpose of a sentence is punishment and we don’t consider it to be punishment for a person to participate in activities that are already part of their daily routine.”

Very interesting. The courts denied his request to do MORE good in the neighborhood because he had been naughty. What kind of message is that?! We are going to deprive the youth of a role model and make him pick up trash because he was convicted of what will amount to a misdemeanor?  Everyone knows Snoop’s story…let him work with the kids.

As far as the sentence, Man doesn’t he seem lucky. I could have sworn I’ve seen signs in the trains here in New York that state “Carry an illegal weapon, do 3 years. No questions asked.” And with his long wrap sheet one would think that would play a role. I guess he got a little Paris Hilton treatment for his celebrity status. Perhaps the fact that the nature of the baton and its use was disputed played a role but still.

  1. She said it right, “…purpose of a sentence is punishment…”

Who cares what the community needs? Forget about the kids. Snoop does enough. He needs to clean the streets because the sanitation department is clearly not doing its job. The kids already have good roll models they don’t need another one.

It is clear that the system isn’t out to better the communities it is supposed to serve and protect. You cannot better a community through sweeping and painting. Sure, you’ll make it look nice but you still have people in that community who need help, guidance, and a purpose for being.

This prosecutor is sad, very sad. Her way of thinking alone can ruin someone’s life. Why not further his actions in the community by giving him another group of kids to work with outside of the ones he already donates his time with?

I kinda see whats she is saying though. He was sentenced to a punishment. You should not be able to choose that. Yeh it would be nice to have him work with kids but that may have been enjoyable to him. So instead he’ll be painting some fences.

If you want to think that way Evorgleb…make him work with some white kids then. Take him out of his hood and go work with troubled runaways in Hollywood but his celebrity status can be used for good. Why not take advantage of that. Bad job by the prosecution.

  4. Evorgleb says:

you know those people running the legal system arent gonna see a difference in him working with white kids and black kids though of course there would be.

Let that dude pick some trash up. It’ll humble him. Then when he’s done he can go back to the hood and continue to coach midget football and the other things he does with children.
