Take it a step further and I'd say that dogs are the pale man's best friend. I cannot excuse his actions of engaging in illegal activities. But I do agree with you on the value of human life over that of a dog. Society is a big joke when it comes to what they decide to fight for. You can kill a human, invade someone's country, abandon your children but please don't harm a dog. That is just wrong. The system is a joke and so are the people who represent it.
