Beyonce has been shut down in Malaysia after she refused to abide by the country’s strict dress code policy. Her Nov. 1 concert scheduled for Kuala Lumpur’s 9000-seat Putra Stadium has been canceled following protests by a number of Muslim groups, including the 10,000-strong National Union of Malaysian Muslim Students. The compulsory dress code and other stringent rules on performances were introduced in 2005.
In addition to the dress code the rules state there must be no hugging or kissing among performers or to the audience, no jumping or shouting, no throwing objects onstage or at the audience and no foul language. The clothes cannot have obscene or drug-related images or messages, so basically hip hop is out. Female performers also must show no skin from their chests to their knees.
Knowing all this why would Beyonce even want to go there or why would she even have fans in a country with such rules? Beyonce’s performaces do often feature scantily clad women but aren’t necessarily over suggestive. I guess in this case its more so what you see that what is implied. Skin anyone?          Â
