There has been some significant buzz in the sports media this week over the sale/ auction of Barry Bonds record tying and breaking home runs however Highbrid Nation has discovered that in fact it was Hip Hop Designer Marc Ecko who was the ”anonymous” auction winner of Barry Bonds’ record setting 756th Home Run.  

The ball which was hit at Bonds’ home park of AT&T Park in San Francisco, was actually caught by a Mets Fan from Queens.  He purchased his ticket with a friend on whim while laying over in the city prior to going on vacation. 

Ecko who paid $752,467 at Sotheby’s/SCP auctions reportedly will not keep the ball however.  He has created a website www.vote756.com where baseball fans can vote to 

1. have the ball given to the hall of fame in Cooperstown, NY 

2. Have the ball permanently branded with an asterisk and then handed over to the HOF 
3. placed on a space shuttle which will launch the ball into space. 

I’m not sure what Ecko’s motivation here is.  I didn’t know he was a baseball fan like that so I commend him.  Marc Ecko is probably the richest dude in Hip Hop that you never see or hear from so why now would he get mixed up in this nonsense?  It’s cool as hell to own that piece of history and perhaps even more noble to hand it over to the Hall of Fame to preserve the relic for all fans to experience but the extra-curricular are silly Marc.  Turn the page.
