Hey Evorgleb, this ones for you. Being the comic book fanatic that I know you are, I’m sure you’ll be pleased to know that comics are going mobile as in mobile phone. Kansas City-based uClick announced yesterday that it is making history with the release of “Thunder Road” the first comic book released in the U.S. exclusively on a cell […]

Hey Evorgleb, this ones for you. Being the comic book fanatic that I know you are, I’m sure you’ll be pleased to know that comics are going mobile as in mobile phone. Kansas City-based uClick announced yesterday that it is making history with the release of “Thunder Road” the first comic book released in the U.S. exclusively on a cell phone. “Thunder Road,” a post-apocalyptic adventure he developed by artist Steven Sanders.Â
Although mobile comic books are still in their infancy uClick already boasts 55,000 readers a month for its GoComics service. For $4.49 a month on Verizon, ($3.99 on AT&T and Sprint) subscribers can chose from about a dozen traditional comics or Japanese titles as well. Titles already released include ”Bone” and “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles,” and more up-and-coming books, like  ”Umbra” and ”Devi.” The comics site adds new chapters or issues for each title every week.Â
This is great news for smaller comic book creators looking to leap to the digital arena, where production and distribution are cheap. But its also great for wireless providers who are thirty for cool new applications that they can charge subscriptions fees for.  I used to be a huge comic book fan but if I was the fanatic I was as a kid I could see myself reading while i’m on the train. You never again have to worry about someone scuffing up the edges and devaluing the book.

today’s move has ruined my entire weeknd and possible the whole season for my knicks, ol’ gafilkifish lookin’ ass (or however u spell it)

Thanks for the shout out. But I’m actually not familiar with any of the comics or companies you named. I’m more of a Marvel/DC guy. I do think this is a great idea for phone company. give them a different type of content. And as you said it’ll be great for indoe comic makers. I’m sure as soon as it starts to take off you’ll see the bigger comic companies on board also. However I just cant imagine reading a comic book on such a small screen.
