Aight, by now we all know that Paris Hilton’s rich, spoiled ass got sprung from the penalty box after serving just 5 of her original 45 day sentence for violation of her probation stemming from her arrest for driving without a license.  Well the cop who let Queen Sheeba out of jail is defending his position for “reassigning” her to house arrest and her posh mansion. 

Speaking with the Los Angeles Times on Thursday, Sheriff Lee Baca said 

“The problem here is that there is a medical issue and it isn’t wise to keep a person in jail with her problem over an extended period of time and let the problem get worse. In my opinion, justice is being served by the decision to have her serve her time at home. She would still be in the county jail if it were not for the medical advice. My message to those who don’t like celebrities is that punishing celebrities more than the average American is not justice.” 

 

Well hearing about Thursday morning’s sudden release the red phone at the Reverend Al Sharpton’s office rang and the non-caped crusader sprung into action and plans to meet with LA County Sheriff Lee Baca on Monday.  Sharpton said it had “all of the appearances of economic and racial favoritism… I think that it’s both another glaring display of how race and money seem to get different treatments. There seems to be a different criminal justice system for some than others.”  

However it looks like The Los Angeles City Attorney may steal Sharpton’s thunder.  Rocky Delgadillo has “filed a petition for an order to show cause why the sheriff should not be held in contempt for releasing Ms. Hilton, and demanded that she be held in custody.” Superior Court spokesman Allan Parachini said late Thursday afternoon.  If wrongdoing is found in Hilton’s release Paris and her “hero” Sheriff Lee Baca could be cellmates.  

Ordinarily I wouldn’t waste space on Highbrid Nation for Paris Hilton and her paparazzi zoo, however there are some political implications and inconsistencies here.  That’s why the non-capped crusader Al Sharpton has jumped back into the spotlight.   

I’ve said before he doesn’t speak for me but his points are valid.  The Reverend will spend the weekend gathering a petition and testimonial from leagues of minorities who feel they were unfairly detained regardless of medical condition and use this as evidence of racial and social bias on behalf of the justice system.  However its quite possible Paris may be back in the bing before all this happens.  We’ll see.
