Paris goes back to jail. Her case should bring light to the inequities of our Justice System.

So here’s the deal, Paris Hilton was sent screaming and crying back to jail Friday after a judge ruled that she must serve out her sentence behind bars rather than in the comfort of her Hollywood Hills home. This comes hours after Paris was the latest target of Reverand Al Sharpton and his political SuperFriends.

“It’s not right!” shouted Hilton, who violated her probation in a reckless driving case. “Mom!” she cried out to her mother. Throughout the hearing she was seen dabbing her eyes as her body shook constantly. Several times she turned to her parents, seated behind her in the courtroom, and mouthed, “I love you.”

This all followed the midday media frenzy in which the 26-year-old hotel heiress was taken handcuffed from her home in a patrol car as paparazzi and news helecopters followed in pursuit while broadcasting love.

Despite being ordered by Superior Court Judge Michael T. Sauer to serve the remainder of her original 45-day sentence, Hilton could still be released early. Inmates are given a day off their terms for every four days of good behavior, and her days in home detention counted as time served. The judge told the coutroom, “I at no time condoned the actions of the sheriff and at no time told him I approved the actions. At no time did I approve the defendant being released from custody to her home.” The judge however did not take action the contempt request filed on Sheriff Baca.

Assistant City Attorney Dan F. Jeffries argued that Hilton’s incarceration was purely up to the judge. “Her release after only three days erodes confidence in the judicial system,” he said.

Hilton’s attorney, Richard Hutton, argued that the judge should hear the evidence of Hilton’s medical condition prior to making a decision…the judge ignored the request saying “The court’s role here is to let the Sheriff’s Department run the jail.”

The judge interrupted several times to say that he had received a call last Wednesday from an undersheriff informing him that Hilton had a medical condition and that he would submit papers to the judge to consider. He said the papers never arrived. Subsequently, every few minutes, the judge would interrupt proceedings, state the time on the clock, and note that the papers still had not arrived.

You’re probably wondering why I’m spending so much time on Paris Hilton. Its actually not her that is my focus its the case. Ok I get it for some reason the media has created a whirlwind around this girls every move but her status as a “celebrity” doesn’t constitute her being above the law. My man Urban Thought (blog.urbanobservation.com) hit on the head this case probably unintentionally throws a spotlight on the evenly weighted scale that exists to represent our justice system.

In actually our justice system from law enforcement to the judicial and correction systems disproportionately puts the those who have less resources to defend thier freedom in a position where they constantly see less forable results than those who are.

In otherwords, poor people and minorities suffer greater and more frequent setbacks at the hands of the justice system because they the system has predisposed them to it. Why because the more poor people and minorities they can impose negative outcomes on the more rich and white folks they can grant freedom to. Its a balancing act…but a biased one.
