First Look At The Joker From New Batman Film

When many people found out that Heath Ledger would be playing The Joker in the next Batman film, Dark Knight, most said “huh?”. Thats because up until now Ledger’s most well known roll is as one of the cowboys in Brokeback Mountain. After he was anounced as the Joker many tried to visualize how he may look in the make-up. With all the green hair and red lips. The movie’s director Christopher Nolan also went on record saying the Joker would be more evil and less clownish than other Batman movies. So that leads us back to the question. So what will the Joker look like. Take a look.

The Joker

What do you guys think? Yay? Nay? The image comes a a viral marketing website for the film called IBelieveInHarveyDentToo.com (Harvey Dent is the character who later becomes TwoFace). Looks like the movie’s plot may revolve around the Joker’s issues with Dent. Maybe even leading into the creation of TwoFace. But maybe I’m reading too much into this. We’ll see if I’m right.

UPDATE: Some of you may be wonder if I posted a broken link above to the IBelieveInHarveryDentToo.com site. The link is indeed correct but the site has been changed so it reads “page not found”. But if you actually highlight the page you’ll see hidden text which reads something like “HAHAHAAHAAAHA”. Now you may notice random letters in the H’s and A’s. The letters combined form the the phrase “See you in December”! Gotta love that viral marketing. Wonder what we’ll see in December.

Yo…He looks hot. He’s an actor so he gets a semi-pass for the Brokeback Mountain thing. But yo…the Joker is looking crazy.

its definately a departure from how we have seen the Joker in the past. In the source material (the comics) the Joker does look clowish but is not nearly as campy as he has been in the TV series/cartoons. I’m looking forward to this though. As long as he still has green hair, im cool

Exactly…no one’s going to be able to top jack so they’re going to need to go completely left field with this.

Joke looks cool, personally I can’t wait for Two Face, because the other Batman Movie screwed him up royally. Since the new Batman movies seem to be more serous and less comic like, maybe he’d be done right (and not played by Tommy Lee Jones).

Jack was a damn good Joker, it’ll be tough to replace him, but I think it’ll work.

This is genius… The purists will hate, but this is phenom…

I love the dark direction Nolan has taken the franchise, and he is thoroughly washing away the taint Jerry Bruckheimer brought to the franchise trying to catch the “campiness” of the old 70s series.

Let’s get it straight, Frank Miller reminded everyone Batman is a funked up individual in the head and is truly the Dark Knight… seeing Heath disfigured + the viral stuff (iloveharveydentoo.com) is ingenius.

Trust me, this combined with the inevitable 3 (which has Harvey as Two Face) will be the definitive Batman series.

As for nobody topping Jack… depends on which “version” of the Joker you like…

If you loved the cookie, demented prankster… then Jack nailed it…

If you love the interpretations of Joker that had him as a sick and sadistic demented psychopath that finds humor in sincere misery and torment… wait until you see what Heath does under Nolan’s direction..

Trust me purists… TransFormers and The Dark Knight are in great hands.

thing about the Joker as a character is that there has never been a truly defined personality for him. In the comics he is always portrayed as a clownish pranster or a homocidal maniac. Usually either one or the other but rarely both (the animated series tried to combine both). I say that to say, there really isn’t a “right” joker because the source material can’t even decide how he is supposed to act.

As for the darker direction on the new batman movies. I like it but word is that between The Dark Knight and the next Batman film, Bale will be playing Batman in a Justice Leauge movie. how could he possibly fit in a movie like that?

Sorry S Dot, a Justice Leauge movie is definately in the works with Bale and Routh playing Batman and Superman. A matter of fact Highbrid Nation reported on it a while back and the article can be found here

This is beautiful. I felt the animated series gave the best Joker interpretation thus far, and I didn’t care so much for Jack Nicholson’s Joker. This look is truly terrifying, as it should be, and it nicely fits the visual look of this series. It incorporates elements of the character from The Man Who Laughs, which was the original inspiration for the Joker; I am curious as to how they handle his origin. At least we know this time they won’t have him be the guy who killed Bruce’s parents.

Why is everyone getting on Nicholson’s character. Remember acting is not imitation. Sure Jamie Foxx can win an oscar because he played an excellent Ray Charles but we knew Ray and we also knew from “In Living Color” that Jamie’s strong suit was impersonation. Jack BECAME the character he developed to be his own. Sure he had guidelines from Gleb’s “Source Material” but he took that and made it his own. One of the best performances in modern film. I’m sorry.

I’m sure Brokeback will do an excellent job however… He’s got a leg up (no pun intended) with the work the makeup stylist has done in this phonto.

Funny you mention the animated series. Have a friend that is a Batman Encyclopedia and was telling me I really need to watch the new one to see how well they nailed (at least in his head) Penguin and Joker….

Curiouser and curiouser.

The animated series did have a good joker except for he was a pumk always runnng away frm a fight. I like the way he was portrayed in the Batman Beyond (future batman) movie before he died. He almost killed all three Batman, Batgirl and Robin, to me that was the most evil Joker (and it brought out the best in Batman too)

I’m sure this Joker will come correct though, they did good with Scarecrow (who in my eyes was always a weak character). Hopefully this Aaron Eckhart will be a good Two Face seeing he’s Harvey Dent now.
