I run ran across this little tidbit and thought it was rather funny. Seems like as of sometime last month the state of Oklahoma has changed thier offcial state vegetable to watermelon. Since when is a watermelon a vegetable? Keep in mind that a official state vegetable (or state bird, flag, ect.) has to be aproved by the state senate. That means that in Oklahoma’s state senate, the majority of the voters felt that a watermelon is indeed a vegetable and should represent the state.

Sen. Don Barrington (R) is the one who sponsored the bill and had this to say about the subject, “The controversy on whether watermelon is a fruit or vegetable has been officially decided by the Oklahoma Legislature”

And I always thought that stuff was to be decided by scientists who study plant biology. Stupid me.

Barrington’s main argument is that a watermelon is somewhat related to a cucumber. Since a cucumber is a vegetable, then so is a watermelon. Can’t argue with that logic right?

and who said black people don’t eat enough vegetables? (sorry I couldn’t help myself)

  1. It was my understanding that Cucumber was a fruit just the same as a Watermelon. If it has seeds then its a fruit.
