The Black Family Channel is set to air its last broadcast on April 30 according to Multichannel.com. The subscriber based network is co-owned by lawyer Willie Gary, former baseball star Cecil Fielder, entertainer Marlon Jackson, cable executive Alvin James and former heavyweight boxing champ Evander Holyfield. The network has had trouble securing significant cable and satellite distribution to remain in business in spite of sporting 16 Million subscribers. Â
The Atlanta-based network which was overseen by actor/producer Robert ”Blankman” Townsend sports over 16 Million subscribers and provided African-American-targeted, family-friendly programming over the past eight years. Â
According to multichannel.com, the Gospel Music Channel is the likely candidate to replace the now defunct network.   BFC executives confirmed negotiations with Gospel and said, “It is not closing its doors,” but would not elaborate further, the Web site reported.Â
No offense but no wonder it’s struggling. I’ve never heard of it. Have you? Take a look at the programming its horrible… Ethnic Health America, Neo Soul Cafe, Gumbo TV, Real Saavy Moms. Woof that’s horrible. YOU WANT PEOPLE TO PAY FOR THAT PROGRAMMING? NO SHOT!
