In a world where most R&B singers get there start, Keyshia Cole crumbled.  Bishop Noel Jones, invited her to participate in a program at Easter service at the City of Refuge Church. 

Prior to taking the stage to sing, the Bishop mistakenly introducing her with the wrong first name.  This was a sign of many things to come.  As she was walking towards the stage Cole had a complete  “wardrobe malfunction.”  Wearing a short dress to begin with a female member of the church attempted to cover her with a shawl but in doing so the back of her dress was accidentally lifted.  One witnesses in the choir stand reported that Cole’s backside was exposed. The woman assisting Cole managed to cover her rear just before she stepped out to sing.

After a short prayer she broke into “His Eye Is on the Sparrow.”  However, Cole could not find the proper key and it progressively got worse each time she tried to make adjustments.  As is the case in the black church,  the crowd muttered “Take your time,” and  “You can do it Keyshia!” 
However she couldn’t do it.  Unable to find the correct key, her vocals were shaky, out of tune and far from the quality of “Love,” her first mega hit that showcases her as an able vocalist.    She spent the next couple minutes stopping and starting to clear her throat.  The musicians even tried to help by chasing her vocals but to no avail.

After several minutes she gave up and was escorted off the stage to a light applause.  She was too embarrassed to stay for the service.  The bishop followed her performance by scolding those judgmental individuals in the congregation.  He said he knew what he was doing by inviting her for the impromptu performance and hoped some of the power and anointing that preceded her performance would impact her for the next time she took to the stage.  Cole’s manager asked the bishop not to run her performance on the national broadcast of the service, Fresh Oil which airs on BET.

Keyshia, I got love for you but next time know your element.  Many singers, as I mentioned grew up in the church and know how to handle that audience and environment. It is clear that she was not one of them and that’s ok.  I hope that GOD will touch her using this experience as a turning point in her life.  OOPS!
