BREAKING NEWS: Imus fired by MSNBC and Now CBS Radio. Here’s what the media WON’T TELL YOU.
All week Highbrid Nation has been discussing IMUS and the story the media won’t be able to tell you. From the eyes of a former co-worker. All week Highbrid Nation has been discussing IMUS and the story the media won’t be able to tell you. From the eyes of a former co-worker. Well Wednesday the radio talk show host was told by his television syndicate, MSNBC, that it would no longer simulcast his program. Today, CBS RADIO (the company that owns WFAN-AM, my former employee) followed NBC’s lead and fired the long time morning talk show icon. CBS has canceled Don Imus’ radio show, effective immediately, after uproar over his racist and sexist comments about Rutgers women’s basketball team.CBS President and Chief Executive Officer Leslie Moonves announced the decision:
“From the outset, I believe all of us have been deeply upset and revulsed by the statements that were made on our air about the young women who represented Rutgers University in the NCAA Women’s Basketball Championship with such class, energy and talent,”
Yesterday the NBC brass said:
“this decision comes as a result of an ongoing review process, which initially included the announcement of a suspension. It also takes into account many conversations with our own employees. What matters to us most is that the men and women of NBC Universal have confidence in the values we have set for this company…Once again, we apologize to the women of the Rutgers basketball team and to our viewers. We deeply regret the pain this incident has caused.”
I guess all the pressure that blogs like Highbrid Nation and the public outcry were too much. Yeah right! Like with anything, its all about the $$GREEN$$. Advertisers depart…so must Imus.
The announcement, however, is bittersweet. Remember not only did I work with Imus, I worked alongside the men and women in the sales department that suffered the loss of the accounts as a result of Imus’ comments and now his subsequent firing. These hardworking individuals and the children of the charities that Imus “supported” will be the ones who suffer even more than the women of Rutgers Basketball Team.
It saddens me to know epecially that Bigalow Tea specificially has pulled thier advertising from IMUS. A personal and close friend of mine and long time WFAN salesperson developed this business and has relied on its revenue for his livelihood. I haven’t been able to reach him yet but it’d be interesting to know what his take and more importantly what HIS CLIENT’S take on the entire situation is.
General Motors Corp., a significant advertiser on the show, said on Wednesday that it was suspending its advertising but wasn’t opposed to continuing once the incident dies down stating:
“This is a very fluid situation, and we’ll just continue to monitor it as it goes forward when he returns to the air. GM will continue to support Imus’ charitable efforts for children dealing with cancer and autism.”
American Express also pulled its advertising from Imus’ show on Tuesday saying “Our policy isn’t to advertise on controversial programming.†company spokeswoman Judy Tenzer said. HEY JUDY…what the hell were you advertising on Imus for anyway? HIS WHOLE SCHTICK IS CONTROVERSEY YOU BIG DUMMY. Proctor & Gamble and Staples did the monkey see monkey do thing also.
Follow the money…and you’ll follow the truth. This whole controversey was never about race, sports, or politics, its always about greenbacks. Imus wouldn’t say those type of things if it wouldn’t make him money. Al Sharpton wouldn’t call his racist ass on it if it didn’t help promote his show. But alas the advertisers have SPOKEN and Imus will no longer, on MSNBC and CBS at least. This story has been one that has gone on for hundreds of years and won’t be over with this announcement. Stay posted.
RELATED STORY: Imus Gets Suspended 2 weeks but here’s what the media WON’T TELL YOU.

Aight let me start with full disclosure. I worked with this idiot over the last four years at the radio station. I can honestly say in that time I’ve never shared a word with the man. Like many “personalities†whether they be radio or TV, he is the epitome of unapproachable. (See David Letterman or Howard Stern.) The extent of our interaction was limited to his occasional morning grunt or forearm to my shoulder if I was in his way. But I knew my place right? After all I was a jigaboo right?
This dude is as racist as they come. But you know why I don’t fault him? Because he never masked it…until now. He’s ALWAYS said racist remarks. His show often makes fun of African-Americans and Latinos. As with many morning radio shows they do parodies, with favorite targets being Al Sharpton who is depicted in a horribly offensive Ebonic tongue and Omar Miniya, the General Manager for the New York Mets, who is portrayed with a horrible Hispanic accent. The problem is that Imus’ suspension will not kick in until NEXT WEEK. Just one day after he will complete the WFAN Radiothon which as has NOT BEEN REPORTED is the biggest charity fundraiser in NY RADIO HISTORY. At first, it sounds like its a good thing right? Well the problem is in addition to raising money for The CJ Foundation for SIDS and the Tomorrow’s Children’s Fund for Kids with Cancer the event also raises funds for THE IMUS RANCH; A working cattle ranch retreat for children with ailments set on his own property in New Mexico. Uhhhhh so he’s suspended but won’t start that suspension until Monday so he can raise $2 Million for his crib out west. You might as well literally slap dude on the wrist. I wasn’t even that upset by this story at first until I heard that stupidness. Oh and for anyone who wants to complain call Mark Chernoff. He is the program director of the radio station. His number is 718-707-4001. That’s his direct line. The other problem is like Imus said,
“that phrase (referring to Hoe) originated in the black community. … I may be a white man, but I know that these young women and young black women all through that society are demeaned and degraded by their own black men and that they are called that name.”
He’s deflecting the blame but he’s right. Black people, and I’m guilty, OPEN THE DOOR for racisim by showing others exactly what to say that will offend them. He could have said Nigger on the air and honestly he’d have a case for being justified. He could easily fire back saying “HOT 97 and 105 The Beat use it.” We need to stop the self hate and maybe others will stop hating us as much. Starts with me…Are you down?

look at his face
I agree with you Stylus. can’t blame people for saying the same things we black people say to each other.
I feel you on that. Mino…no black people are quick to point the finger at a white person for saying stuff we say twords other black people. I say fuck them, and all that bullshit. Look in the mirror and as much as I don’t like fifty, what he does is right in my eye. Black people focus so much on bullshit like that, that we neglect important shit. Flip that anger and do a positive. I hate the old cliche’, but the best revenge is to live happily. Fireing Imus will not change who he is, or change how some whites feel about blacks, but blacks need to respect themselves as a whole and do our own shit. I know we all don’t agree with one another, but we can work together.
Later
That is a cop-out, Imus mean’t every word he said. Why are people making excuses for him. The guy should be fired. As for the two weeks, sure, cool down and folks go right back to the beginning as if nothing ever happened. Now what this whole Imus mea culpa is like Michael Richards in redux…and wasn’t it Imus who ridiculed that man and then voila…what goes around comes around..and there is Imus on Alan Sharpton…please…you could not make this stuff up.
thats bullshit, so ya’ll basically say what he did is ok, that’s bullshit too. I know ya’ll don’t feel that way so get off of the “we say it” nonsense. There are many of us who don’t say those things and use the term nigga. everybody ain’t a teenaged neega from the hood. He ain’t black, he’s racist that’s it
Seriously, you’re attacking a man for raising money for charity? You are one sick bastard. Stop playing the part of a victim and grow a pair.
j, one of the reasons why I dislike private charity so much, is because people like Imus hide behind it when they transgress. It’s not just racism, but sex scandals, embezzling, etc. Look up scandals in New York City, and some perv’s charity work will always be presented so he can look like an okay guy, nevermind how he was humiliating women! Rich people really do use private charity as a means to mitigate other wrongs they do. This is why as a progressive I’m very aware we need a social net along the lines of the Scandinavian countries to minimize the power of the rich using charity to make the wrong that they do seem okay
Imus very well may be a racist. I dont know the man so i cant say if he is or he isnt but I dont feel the term “nappy headed hoe” is racist. With that hair he has, someone could easily say he’s a “nappy headed host”. Joking aside, When he made the comment it was obviously an attempt at humor. Now whether it was actually funny or not is another matter. I just think its hypocritical to get on him saying something like that when I can hear it said every night on BET. If we as black people want other races to stop talking in certain ways then we should stop ourselves…and I don’t see that happening anytime soon.
You make some excellent points. Thanks for giving a personal insight into the man behind the microphone. I also agree that we, as African-Americans, need to do a better job of not opening the door on this one. I certainly don’t think that this in any way justifies Imus’ comments, but it does enable him (and plenty of others) to use our own use of negative and demeaning language as a defense.
so is it just the nappy headed part of the comment racist? Ho’s is not a word that is strictly held by african americans. Or is it because he directed it to twelve african american women? If he directed his comments to the UConn womens team, or the university of Minnesota, who are teams of mixed makeup, would everyone be so offended?
It’s comedy man, grow up. They make fun of everybody and Imus is ridiculed the most by his own guest on the show. Grow some skin you bunch of whinnies. I recall a day when Richard Pryor was at his best when poking fun at all races.
I see the situation like this: Among family members I have a certain nickname. I don’t like it, but it’s been there since before I could talk (protest) so I deal. That nickname is so engrained that a good chunk of my less-close relatives don’t even know what my real name is. Once, a friend of mine heard family members call me by that nickname, so he just up and did it. I told him that was strictly family business, but he used it again several times. Finally, I just quit hanging with the jerk for not respecting my wishes.
I think of this any time I hear someone use the “well, they use it all the time” argument. Just because all or some or even two Blacks call each other “nigga” or all or a few women call each other “bitches” or homosexuals call each other “faggot” doesn’t mean that people who are not part of that group should think it’s okay to just co-opt those terms.
And yes, sparky Duck, the “nappy headed” part is racist. The “hos” part is sexist. Had he said something like “stringy-headed hos” for UConn or U of M, I’d think he’d deserve the same punishment.
But see I think this whole thing is a big fat publicity stunt. Who the heck was even thinking about Don Imus before last week? Suddenly, all these articles and talking heads calling for his firing! His handful of listeners will probably double their donations for the charity event, while people who didn’t listen before but think this kind of thing is ‘clever’ and ‘brilliant’ comedy will tune in just to show their support.
Well, someone sent me a link to this, but I wanted to chime in.
Sorry, his thoughts had to have come from somewhere, whether or not he was trying to be satirical or not, he must have felt this way about black women to have expressed what he did.
The problem with Imus is that he is trying to be a credible newsman, as well as radio host, not border into comedy.
I am in agreement about the ‘justification’ and African Americans…
Here’s a question you people. Did most people know about or care about the fact that Rutgers won the championship before Imus’ comment brought it to the for front. In a real backwards way he helped them out with the publicity. irony
hey whats even worse is the fact that they lost the championship
I think the fact few people knew about Rutger’s role in the championship has more to do with the sexist nature of sports coverage in general.
Blacks hate themselves so whats so wrong with Whites hating us?
Stand back and think about what they are really saying when they start talking about the hatred in Black music as a justification for racism.
@ sparky Duck. I stand corrected. Made me look kinda dumb
But back to the matter at hand. Allow me to play devil’s advocate for a sec. When Hurricane Katrina happened Imus was one of the first white media personalities voicing his opinion that the lack of help the victims were getting was due to thier race. So was he racist then?
No, he was a person with eyeballs who could see the situation for what it was. That does not change the fact that this incident is racist and sexist and his history of making such comments is I think more proof of what kind of person he is.
j must be gay and most of these comments are wack, katrina who cares, ofcourse he was talking about the lack of response, it’s news, he has a radio show, why wouldn’t he be. It’s alot of confused dummies out there. What really and intentionally happened is being covered up by all this nonsense
Sike Chick you were almost right. Problem is Imus doesn’t appeal to our demographic however, in truth he is probably the most powerful radio host of all time. He invented the Shock Jock. Without him there is no Howard Stern, Star & Buc Wild, Big Boy, and to some extent Rush Limbaugh.
As for J…remember I worked at the radio station and as a radio head I’ve studied this man and his work. HE LIVES ON THE RANCH in New Mexico and has even been investigated for improper handling of contributions.
I think its important to note that the Rutgers women are upset not because of his comments but the fact that there privacy is now not being invaded NOT BECAUSE of their excellent season but because of what a dick said about them on the air.
Is he prejedice hell yeah. Should he be fired for it? Heck they all are. Mike and the Mad Dog are on the same station right now defending them. And I know for a fact they are racist. But that’s not the issue. He says stuff like that every day. He’s a dick and that’s why he doesn’t deserve to grace the mic anymore.
By the way to add to my last comment, Imus has 5 million listeners and is syndicated in 26 states. Only reason you don’t know that is because his show doesn’t appeal to those who might even think about blogging.
I don’t know what’s in his heart, but we’ve long noticed his cheesy scams… the Imus Ranch, which employs his brother & wife, the AutoBody store products he doesn’t sell anymore, now it’s the
green stuff… Scams all of it.
You bring up a good point about the power of Imus. I only know of him because of his show on MSNBC but I dont really listen to radio and would venture that the type of folks that visit Highbrid Nation may not be fans of his either. I’m sorry i still feel like in the context of everything he was just doing his job, which is to be a shock jock.
BTW. Great story S Dot
Thanks for the background. It does sound like you do not like him. Is he an arrogant dick, (sounds like a big yes). Is he an arrogant white dick, (sounds to me this makes you even madder). But maybe I am too. What get’s me (as a frequent watcher of the show) is that sometimes it is quite funny (check out the hulk hogan skits on imusblog.com). Sometimes it is embarrassing (Mets GM skits). Sometimes it is appalling (like right now). But sometimes the washington/ny media /govt elite power structure are grilled good. Is he a journalist, no. His goal is to sell commercials while you drive to work and he uses humor and “shock” to make a buck. Who doesn’t ?
It’s been a long time since I read the Christian Science Monitor. Is that all that should be published ?
The key thing to remember here, folks, is nobody can get offended unless they let themselves be offended. Pretending like this is a real scandal perpetuates the myth that black citizens in good standing should care one way or another what Don Imus says.
How bout you guys look at ur so called “black leaders”…Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson are just as fuckin ridiculous condeming Imus…How bout when jackson was running for president and he referred to New York as “hymie-town” and Sharpton calling a white business owner an “interloper” causing black people to burn his business down…oh and how bout he explain the Tawanna Brawley(sp?) case. Both of these guys are publicity whores.
Leave Imus alone. He only said what black people say to each other. So what’s the beef?
The bigger prpblem here is Rev Al and Rev Jesse. They make their money off the backs of black people. As long as they raise a ruckus, their pockets get full. The bleakest thing for black people today is these two guys. They’re a couple of clowns. Oops….was that racist?
I am more outraged at the grandstanding Jesse and Al and all the other African-American leaders are doing, than I am at Imus’ comment. Where is Jesse’s and Al’s outrage about the the hos and bitches African American women are called constantly by these rappers?!!? Instead of being up in arms about Imus, who half of the black folks have never even heard of, … how about some outrage about Snoop Dogg and all these other rappers that are held up as icons.
I agree that Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton aren’t really the best people to be leaders of the black community. There was a funny scene on South Park where Jesse Jackson made a man apologize to all black people by kissing Jesse Jackson’s behind. As outlandish as the scene was, it rings true. Jesse and Al atand up and say they speak for all black people which is something that really bothers me.
@ Sandy, in defense of Al though he does stand up against rappers. We’ve reported on his protest against rapper Tony Yay recently right here at Highbrid Nation
Yeah Sandy make sure you do your homework before you comment. As for Jesse and Al…I can’t speak on them I never worked with either. Please keep in mind the story was based on PERSONAL experience. By the way Jesse although I’m sure he’s keeping a close ear really isn’t involved in this story.
Also do remember I’m not faulting Imus for his comments…he says those things all the time. ITS HIS JOB. Eventhough the station was pumped through loudspeaker all day I chose not to listen when his show was on. I’m not in his demo so he wasn’t sweating me…nor should he have. Likewise its Jesse and Al’s job to call people to the carpet when an issue of this magnitude takes place. Imus P1′s will still listen without a doubt. What the issue here is a reminder that racism and prejudice still exist in our society and to be mindful of your mouth.
What did bother me was the way I was treated by him OFF THE AIR. Believe me there were far more appauling stories that I could share that WOULD probably get him fired. But in the end, He wouldn’t suffer financially only the childeren from the charities he benefits would and thats what I always keep in mind.
To Cheebes and Dansgirl I find it a little offensive when you keep saying you guys. Doing that makes it sound like all black pople think the same. Not all black people listn to rap, just like all white people don’t listen to country. Like what Gleb and Skee said, they do protest other things, it’s just not publicized like everyhing else. When anissue happens that the media thinks black people should be mad about, they call them two. They do not focus on all they do, because Fifty or Anna Nicole Smith seems to be more important.
Back to the Imus issue, what he said was irresponsible, just like rap is, what Jesse said back in the day was, and what Howard Stern says, but firing him will not make a difference. If they want to puinsh him, make him donate money to the teams he offended.
To back up what gleb said earlier and to play Devil’s Advocate, I don’t know the guy either and I feel what Skee said about personally dealing with him, but he did say the Tenesee team were some cuties, and I do believe they have black females on there. What about the other people on his show, they joined in with him on his comments.
Lastly, he really did not attack the race as a whole, if he said nigger, then he would of. But even as a black male if I called a black female a nappy headed ho, I would get my ass kicked. The term attacks someone personally, I think it’s more sexist than racist. I’m just glad an incident happened that makes people talk and think about this, hopefully it will stay discussed and aris Hilton’s latest sexapde or fifty’s latest craziness will not cover an issue that is constantly ignored in America.
So what you’re saying with your “its black people’s fault because we call each other hoes” logic is that the slang word “hoe” doesn’t mean anything and if a Blackman called a Black woman a nappy headed hoe, there’d be no consequences to that? You’re saying that being called that type of name is so common place in the Black community that nobody should be saying anything because we should be used to it?
Because that’s the epitome of BULLSHIT. Anybody calling me a nappy headed ho better be ready to rock because it’s going to be drama after that.
If he wanted to imitate rappers, why didn’t he call the dimepieces or ballas or send them a shout out or big them up or use any of the positive slang that we have- how do you go directly to nappy headed hoes as the first thing you think of when you see eight black women and then talk about what somebody else says and how they are victimized by their own?
Thats like my husband killing me then using as his defense that Scott Petersen killed his wife and it happens in the white community all the time.
@NYC-Chic. Actually if I jokingly called a girl a “nappy-headed hoe” I’d probably get away with it depending on a the context it was said in. If she knew I was just playing she probably wouldnt get mad (for the record I would never do that). What i think people fail to realize is that Imus was tryin to say that the team had some rough looking females, which they are. And low and behold, they aren’t all black. Guess those white women are nappy headed hoes too. Click here to see the team roster and take a look at the girls for yourself. RASHIDAT JUNAID looks like Jay-Z, lol
Now for the record let me say that I’m not saying its cool what Imus said. I’m just saying that he and other shock jocks say stuff like that all the time. People see to be cool with all of Howard Stern’s racist and sexist remarks. People are just looking for a scapegoat. But before we can start checking people for being racist we need to check the people in our own community. When Imus started getting grilled the first thing he said was “black guys said that to black women all the time” and he absolutely right. Like I said I can hear the “nappy headed hoe” line on any givn night on BET’s Comicview. Tell me I cant
Let me first say that Imus being “unapproachable” has nothing to do with this whole thing. Howard Stern said Imus was “unapproachable” in his book and his movie over 10 years ago! That has nothing to do with him being racist That’s just being a jerk. I think we’ve given “Shock Jocks” civil liberty to say whatever they want about whomever they want because we’ve becom desensitized to lots of things as a society. I, as an african-american man, thinkits deplorable to even find it offensive when Don Imus demeans our black women and it is acceptable when the same words are stated by a rapper or an R&B artist in their lyrics. This double standard of freeedom of speech has plauged us for sometime now. I believe everyone has the right to say whatever they want to say….but Ethical and Moral consequences should be considered in each case not just when I white man demeans a black man or vice versa. There should be consequences even in Intra-racial cases as well!
Imus needs to re-evaluate his perception of a “ho.”
After all, he’s from the same race that spawned chicks like Paris Hilton, Anna Nicole Smith, Heidi Fleiss, Marilyn Monroe, Elizabeth Taylor (who married anybody who looked at her sideways), the Girls Gone Wild college flashers, shall we go on?
Not that it’s cool to call anybody out of their name, but if you think about it, the most infamous “loose women” throughout history have not been women of color…they’ve been White girls.
And as far as the “nappy headed part,” he looks like he could use a PCJ No-Lye Relaxer himself. So I wouldn’t talk if I were him.
I do not like Imus and only hear of what he sais sometimes. But I think this is blown out of proportion and it is not in the context.
When you simply reprint ” Imus said ‘nappy-headed hoes’ ” over and over, the context is lost. Put it in context, you’d see it was a joke from a possibly racist individual, but its still a joke.
I listen to Power 106 here in Los Angeles and I must say certain black and latino radio personalities do make some remarks that might seem racist against blacks, whites, and latinos. But, put them in context of the show, and you would see it is a joke. If any of them just came up to a woman on the street and said ” you look like a nappy-headed ho “, being black would not save them from getting their butt kicked.
This is part of the problem, sound bites. Imus is getting this much heat because he is regarded as a racist already – based on opinions of people that do not like him. If Big Boy from Power said that during one of his crank calls, this would not be an issue since its hard to label him a racist and get a sound bite out of it on the news.
PS. I do not get offended everytime I hear cracker or white devil. Because I know it doesn’t apply to ME so I don’t care. In my opinion, the people who get offended by any statement are people who deep down inside believe a part or all of it to be true and not proud of it. Someone calls me stupid, I don’t care since I don’t consider myself stupid. People call me lazy, I sometimes get ticked off since I know its one of my faults.
Is it worse to call a black woman a nappy headed whore as a joke, stupid as it may be, or is it worse to get a black woman pregnant and then leave her to raise the child by herself, not paying child support and possibly turning her into a whore so she could support herself and her child? Not that it happens in the black community…
have u heard, IMUS is done, fired, fa sho
Thanks Dos Un, we have the story for you. Here’s the link its also listed above: http://highbridnation.highbrid.com/?p=1752
Ho is just the hood way of saying whore…prostitute. It’s the oldest profession in the world.
Please remember the context of Imus remarks. While he made his coments, footage of the womens’ game played. We saw the opposing team, mostly white, blonde and the Rutgers team, balck, and according to Imus, rough looking, tattoed. He called them nappy headed hos then was quick to point out he thought the opposing team looked cute.
If you hear at the comments first hand with the footage of the game, and that is the source for all the uproar, you may rethink some of your comments. Put aside rap, black leaders or racists, these are women who are playing a game that was reserved for men in the past, they wake up early to practice, they have to keep up their academic performance. To belittle their hard work and achievement is sad and sick. To imply that they earn money by selling themselves is sick. While the other team is just cute.
Can America not see how it abuses its freedom of speech. It’s comedy, you argue. It’s just a passing comment. All rubbish.
These are people these comments were made about. Comments which reveal a world view, a way of thinking and of perceiving people based on their skin colour and hair texture.
America should just be called the States of America because there is nothing united about it. Division and derision rule.
SikeChick: “And yes, sparky Duck, the “nappy headed†part is racist.”
Have you considered this? If you look at the video that was running while those idiots were cracking wise on the Imus show, it *looks* like every Tennessee player on the court was black, too. Imus thought *they* were cute.
It’s a piss-poor “racist” who hacks one black team but not the other.
in north korea (my home empire) we have solutions for evils like immus.
we call them ‘re-education camps’
we outlaw bad words like us, call them thought-crimes (they are!!)
we much more free than stupid american racists!!
Canuck Not sure what you’re really referring to here. Problem with blogs it they have a tendency to get off on a tangent the more people comment. I’m with you…I think.
I am white and work with almost all black people at work. I have black friends. I hear the rap music which is violent usually about women. Smackin the bitch, ho, etc. etc. I grew up on classic rock that was about partying and good times which brought on its on problems but, this stuff perpetuates crime and negativity. The black on black crime death rate is far higher than whites, asians and latinos combined in all large cities in America. The black youth (not all) “do her” and run off and get in trouble. Single parents raising children these days is hard enough but it is so rampant in the black community(70%) it is litteraly killing your youth because there is no Father figure. Bill Cosby talks about it all the time but you guys are all upset about an old white man using a term that is not anywhere as harmful as what most of you say around your own kids. I am really not surprised that your so focused on Sharpton and Imus because youre certainly not focused on the future of your children.
Nailhead says:

^Agree.
How does a shock jock gets fired for shocking? Humor often offends. If u do not like the man change the channel but to say if u say something someone else finds offensive u might be out of a job is a threat to freedom of speech and anyone who understands the beauty of freedom of speech and America needs to not threaten to march in front of radio station and demand someone be fired for saying “nappy headed hoes” …
I think its ridiculous and sad all at the same time. But GREAT article. Its always about the money. Glad ur not blinded by the wheels in motion and think its about anything else.
I agree Imus’ remarks were nasty but I”m kinda of two minds about whether his being fired is good or more destructive. It defintiely just made some people a lot more angry and negative towards blacks. And i think it’s largely because of Al Sharpton. I hate how he always seems camera and power hungry and fuels the fire every time there’s a controversy. Seriously, who died and made him spokesperson for the black race?!?!?! And the media running to him for statements every time an issue arises def doesn’t help. I know he doesn’t speak for me. We need mor eleaders like Malcolm and Martin these days. Sigh.
I hated his hat.
To Nailhead
According to the Centers for Disease Control, and Department of Health and Human Services, it is your children [white children], and not those of the urban ghetto, who are most likely to use drugs. That’s right: white high school students are seven times more likely than blacks to have used cocaine; eight times more likely to have smoked crack; ten times more likely to have used LSD and seven times more likely to have used heroin. In fact, there are more white high school students who have used crystal methamphetamine (the most addictive drug on the streets) than there are black students who smoke cigarettes.
What’s more, white youth ages 12-17 are more likely to sell drugs: 34% more likely, in fact than their black counterparts. And it is white youth who are twice as likely to binge drink, and nearly twice as likely as blacks to drive drunk. And white males are twice as likely to bring a weapon to school as are black males.
I guess white people are not focused on THEIR children.
Regarding the outcry about IMUS calling blacks “NappyHosâ€.
As a 40-year old proud and dignified black man, I say that maybe the solution to our problems should very well begin with our own people. There is a clear double standard here, where blacks call each other those nasty, insulting and degrading words, then for God sake want to execute IMUS for use a less offensive word.
Take a look at Http://www.Nappyhos.Com , Http://www.Nappyhoes.Com and Http://www.Nappyhoe.Com. These links are pointing to http://www.scarletknights.com and it looks like someone from the Rutgers women’s basketball team bought it to profit from this sad situation. Not sure if they trying to patent that word now? Just like how Chris Rock was trying to patent the word “nigga”? Why are blacks happily profiting from words they claim they hate?
A popular black teen website, “Holla.US†also uses the name “NiggerPlace.Comâ€; most of its members happily call each other nasty words on its blogs and commenting friend’s pages.
I think charity begins are home; therefore, Al Sharpton and all of his so call black leaders should honestly and seriously stop executing other race for using these. They seem like hypocrites.
Thanks
Worked with him at the radio station? He hosted his show from MSNBC in Secaucus NJ. WFAN, the radio station, is Astoria NY. Long forearms?
Personally, I think Imus’ comments are indefensible. He’s a crass, foulmouthed, shriveled up old geezer. But that’s why I loved him. What are the options for morning radio now? Porn stars and drunken midgets? Angry diatribes from political hacks? Where’s Matt Lauer and 10 ways to arrange my purse? Self righteous, thin skinned thumb suckers are winning their fight to make the media as bland as they are.
However one feels about Imus, he was, to some extent, a big part of The conscience of the country.
He did notice what a lot of other people did about Katrina, but he made sure many others in power answered for it. In the same way, he made people in power answer for, among other things, the stupid war in Iraq, low death pay for military and the lack of resources returning veterans.
He has to be a dick to do this affectively.
I hope someone steps forward to take over this function. I think Keith Oberman is trying, but not as affectively.

The media think they are so rightous. They fight hard for their freedom of speech, but when it comes
to one man being attacked for what he says, you all jump on the band wagon because it was against blacks. Beleive it or not it is the media that is causing racism in America. You are one sided. If it is black against white you are all for it because you can get a lot of news. If it is white against black you hush, hush it,unless you feel poooooor black person. You people are pathetic.
