Yardflex.com reports renown author Terry McMillan, files a $40 million lawsuit against her gay, Jamaican ex-husband, alleging defamation of character, emotional distress, invasion of privacy and placing her in a “false light” to harm her professionally and personally.

McMillan, 55, filed the papers last week in Contra Costa County Superior Court against Jonathan Plummer, the 32-year-old whom she met while vacationing in Jamaica. Her best-selling 1996 novel, turned movie, “How Stella Got Her Groove Back” was loosely based on their meeting. The “Waiting to Exhale” author claims that Plummer tried to ruin her reputation. She alleges, Plummer got married in 1998 only to get U.S. citizenship.

Plummer’s lawyer was also named in the lawsuit that claims, “The defendants conspired and formed a plan to threaten to humiliate and embarrass Terry McMillan … violate her privacy and place her in harm’s way - and they threatened to damage her professional and personal standing in an attempt to extort monies from her.”

After admitting to McMillan that he is gay, and appearing on the Oprah Winfrey show to openly discuss the discourse, Plummer had his face off in divorce court. The couple went through a nasty divorce with a settlement for an undisclosed amount favouring the gay Jamaican. It now seems as though McMillan may have her day in court and get some of her money back.
