Google Inc. and LG Electronics Inc. announced Wednesday that they have reached an agreement to provide Google search technology on LG mobile phones. The announcement comes one day after Google’s closest rival, Yahoo! announced plans to beef up is mobile search technology.
Paul Bae, vice president of product planning at LG Electronics Mobile Communications Co. said “LG’s mobile devices, combined with Google, will provide consumers with easy access to their favorite Internet services even without a PC and make it easy for them to stay connected while in motion.”

LG mobile devices will not only feature search technology but users will have access to other Google products like Google Maps, Blogger Mobile and Gmail. The launch date has not been officially announced but LG plans to debut 10 new devices featuring this technology this year with the first scheduled to roll out in the second quarter. Earlier this year, LG rival Samsung Electronics Co. announced plans to provide the Google technology as well.

Although I don’t have an LG this is good news for everybody. As more mobile manufacturers begin to carry Google or now Yahoo! technology it will put pressure on the others to beef up their capabilities. It’s either get down or lay down. I’m really excited about the new mobile search technology being offered by these companies. I hate using my Treo while doing a search on the net then selecting a website which of course can’t be properly viewed on my phone because its been created for the traditional internet.
