[…] Evorgleb from Highbrid Nation (which I just had to add to the Blogroll) inspired some rare envy in me by linking to a great interview he had with Mele Mel of the Furious Five. As always, Mele Mel had some important points about the current state of Hip-Hop. He also dropped a few jewels on crowd psychology and other seemingly-lost arts of Hip-Hop performances. That interview is further proof that the group deserves to be the first Hip-Hop group in the Rock ‘n Roll Hall of Fame. […]

Best interview ever…Give that man a raise!
yes give that man a raise. im so impressed highbrid! keep doing what you do. i wish this debate over music in general could become a public issue/debate. music is a part of american culture and yet on a grand scale lately we have ignored the changes in music and art. maybe its time for artists, both performing and visual artists to start a real movement. not one of these fake “bringing sexy back” movements. have we lost our interest in culture and contributing to culture, or do we simply allow money to drive the “art”? there have been times in history when artists expressed a thought, idea, or concept that educating the people instead of “cute and catchy” which easily sells shaping the “art” that we produce.
Yeah, I’ll suggest a raise here, too! Mele Mel always has interesting things to say in interviews, but these are some of the best questions I’ve seen asked of him in a long time. Not many people these days would think to ask about the whole point of the stage or just performing live in general. Like Nani there, I want to hear more discussion about the art of Hip-Hop. Bits like Mele Mel talking about reading the crowd and figuring them out just shows that there’s more to it than just “rapping at” at a crowd. Much respect!
S Dot Stylus is paid 5 magic beans a day. At this time we can not afford to pay him more than that.
Seriously, I’m glad to people enjoyed the interview. There will also be a part 2 and 3 so stay tuned. The juiciest stuff is yet to come.
Wow, great work. Tell me when you post the others and I’ll be glad to highlight them as one.
