With the tenth anniversary of the death of the Notorious B.I.G. it seems like everyone is trying to capitolize on our fallen king’s death. I guess the legendary D.J. Doo Wop is no different although with his mixtape pedigree I’ll give him a pass. He’s teamed up with Mike Nice to release “The Last King of New York.”

According to Wop, the mixtape features unreleased remixes, blends and the coveted demo cuts we occasionally hear about as well as tributes to B.I.G. performed by Ali Vegas (uhhhh ok), Kardinal Offishall (DOPE!), Mic Geronimo (Aight…Aight) and Da Ranjahz (WOW were yall been at).

I’m definately going to check this one out and I think yall should to. Chances are it’ll be 90% better than the garbage tributes that are dropping like rain drops. Doo Wop works hard and has promised a classic. Its difficult with big because unlike Pac, there’s a limited amount of freestyles and rare cuts that fans can get because B.I.G. died so early in his career and before he could really hit the mixtape scene.

Doo Wop remembers his first run-in with B.I.G.

“I’ll never forget the first time I met Biggie,” he says. “We were at a video shoot at The Tunnel. I was in awe when I saw dude. At this time, my mixtapes were circulating, but this particular experience was the day I realized the mark I was making on the mixtape scene. I wanted to introduce myself to Big so I walked over in his direction and before I could even get close, he yelled, ‘Yo, Wop, when are you going to let me rhyme on one of your tapes?’ We never got to make that happen, but at least I could do my best to pay homage to the greatest of all-time.”

GOOD ISH, GET THIS ONE. B.I.G, the greatest of all time matched with perhaps the greatest mixtape DJ of all time. You could do much worse.
