Today Sony revealed the the new name for its controller will be Sixaxis though in appearance it looks almost exactly like a Dual Shock 2. Sony decided to drop the Dual Shock name because the controller no longer has any “shock”. That’s right, the PS3 controller will not have a rumble feature. Something that has been a mainstay in console controllers since the N64 Rumble Pak. Instead of rumbling the controller will have built in motion sensors. Thus the new name “Sixaxis” which is a reference to the “six degrees of freedom” the controller allows. It does not appear as though PS1 or PS2 controllers will be compatable with the new system.
Evorgleb: Well, the Wii controller has both rumble and motion sensors. Actually much better motion sensor technology. So when Sony says they dropped the rumble feature to add motion sensors, It seems like they are just cutting corners on thier console which is already overpriced at $600
