Today, while surfing the net I came across an editorial at MSN.com called “Why We Love To Hate Our Cell Phone Company” on why people stick with cell phone carriers that they really aren’t satisfied with. That got me to thinking, our relationships with our phone carriers are often as hard to deal with as our romantic relationships. At first this concept might seem a bit far fetched, but it isn’t really so far out there.
Let’s take a look back on some of our worst romantic relationships. Just like with our cell phone carriers we often tried to keep hangin on when there was just no connection anymore. We also try to rationalize why we stay, saying things like, “It is all I know, it is convenient“, or ” I dont want to risk ending up paying the price for leaving“. Some of us have loyalty issues and feel like a sell out when we jump ship or run to where the grass seems greener. The fact is that these relationships while vastly different at first glance, are actually very similar.
We often go through things with our phones and things with our lovers simultaneously. When was the last time your phone either died or lost the signal in the middle of a heated argument? Happened at least once, right? Yeah, I have been there too. Have you ever spent WAY too much time on the phone with someone having a mediocre conversation, and when you get off you feel cheated and discussed? Guess what, you get to feel that all over again when you get your phone bill!
I guess what I am trying to get everyone to see is that in life we are faced with situations where we have to make choices. Stay or go? Yes or no? It is not always the choice you make that is as important as why you made it. Don’t stay with a carrier that had pretty good service but makes you pay a fee to have an actual bill sent to your house because at least with them you know you arent subject to a credit check. In the same token, don’t stay with someone who drives you nuts because at least you know you wont have to be alone, even if that means you always have to pay their way. Make choices based on what is right for you, not on what is easy.
TeLLy: In life people settle for mediocrity way too often. Dont sell yourself cheap because you are afraid that no one will pay full price. (No pun intended, lol).
