Fresh off the critically acclaimed documentary; “When the Levees Broke,†Spike Lee is keeping the focus on the tragedy that took place during Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans, Louisiana.
Spike Lee is currently developing a TV drama, titled “NoLa,†set in post-Katrina New Orleans for NBC. The show follows the lives of New Orleans residents trying to rebuild and piece their lives together.
“NoLa†(which stands for New Orleans, LA) features a multi-cultural cast and represents individuals from different socio-economic backgrounds. “It’s a show about the city trying to rebuild itself and the people who are trying to put their lives together.” Lee told the Associated Press.
Lee will also use people featured in the documentary in supporting roles and fictional characters of themselves in the drama. The pilot will be shot on location in New Orleans. “We don’t have to build sets. Things there still look like the city’s been bombed out,” Lee said. “It’s our goal to make great cinema for television.”
If “NoLa†is picked up by NBC, Lee will helm as the show’s executive producer and director.

Glad to see someone is paying attention the struggle in new orleans. I saw the documentary and thought it was great. Hopefully it’ll bring more attention to the area that the country sees to have forgetten
Spike Lee, damn, now that’s new. It’s about time that NBC, or Network television at that has picked up a drama directed by or produced by an African American. They normally just get comedies or a sub supporting role in a drama.
Yeah. “When the Levy’s broke” was one of the most IMPORTANT American Films in the last 10 years. Its a breathtaking, non-partisan view of the Katrina disaster is something everyone should see. Its on HBO INDEMAND now. Don’t miss it.
