BusinessWeek reports Apple was aiming to price downloads at $14.99 for new releases and $9.99 for older titles. Â Thay had to date only signed up Walt Disney Studios for the venture. While some studios may come on board at a later date, others are expected to balk at Apple’s pricing to avoid a backlash from US retail stores who currently dominate the cut-price sector of the DVD market.
Â
It is also rumored that with the release of the rumored movie service, a wide screen iPod will become available, also an iPod phone is rumored.
Â
E. Night: If this is true, I will definitely buy an iPod now. I always wondered after DVD and HDVD what will happen next, now I know. If only iTunes had a network so you could download directly to your iPod via air waves and you could hook your iPod to your television. That will be revolutionary!

- » Blog Archive » Amazon Beats Apple To The Punch With Unbox
[…] Not too long ago we reported that Apple was planning on making movies availible on iTunes. The plan was to dominate movie downloads the same way they dominate music downloads (over 80% of all music is downloaded through iTunes). Well it seems as though Amazon has something to say about that and has launched it own surprise movie download service called Unbox. iTunes movie download service launches on September 12th and it is unknown how much of a threat Amazon can be to Apple. One thing is for sure though, Wal-Mart is not happy with with all of this as they are worried that cheap movie downloads will affect the sales of actual physical copies of films in thier stores. So it is expected that Wal-Mart will be pushing its weight around, as it has many times in the past, to make sure downloaded movie prices are more in line with what the physical copies cost. […]
- » Blog Archive » Apple Shows Off New iPods
[…] Today (Setember 12th) at an event in San Francisco, Apple had some major anouncements about its iPod line of products. Steve Jobs himself took to the stage at the show and made the official anouncement about the iTunes movie download service for we reported on a few days ago and stated new movies would cost $12.99 and older titles would be $9.99. Steve also said that video games would be availible for download and reveiled a list which included such classic titles as Pac-man and Tetris. Those in attendance were also given the first look at upcoming iPod models which included a stamp sized Shuffle, an 80GB iPod Video (for $349) and a new thinner version of the Nano in five different colors. - Highbrid Nation » Blog Archive » Wal-Mart Pimps The Film Industry And Blocks Movie Downloads
[…] As we reported earlier some time ago, many companies are launching or have launched movie download services including Apple who has added movies to thier iTunes Music Store. As we expected Wal-Mart has indeed stepped in and is tryin to stop studios from selling thier movies online. Wal-Mart believes that if movie downloads offered at a lower price than retail versions do take off then it would seriously hurt sales numbers at Wal-Mart stores. It appears a though Wal-Mart has already pushed thier weight around when it comes to the matter. iTunes is being seen as the market frontrunner for movie downloads but are yet to secure any studios to provide content other than Disney. Back when Disney revealed plans to have movies on iTunes, Wal-Mart threatened to decrease orders of Disney DVDs. Apparantly other studios are aprehensive about signing on with movie download service because they are afraid to damage thier relationships with Wal-Mart who is the leading selling of DVDs (the greatest source of income for film studios). However, it seems as though Apple and Wal-Mart may reach a compromise which would have iTunes prepaid cards being sold in Wal-Mart stores with the profit being split between the two companies. […]
New Music Video: Prodigy, “I’ll Sleep When I’m Dead”
The way he looks these days, he might be taking a nap any day now.
IN Music, New Videos

Wide screen iPod? The ipod video’s already have wide screens. I cant really see myself tryin to watch a whole movie on something the size of an ipod. I think the next step for the Ipod is WiFi to allow people to download music directly to thier ipod at local hotspots.
Actually I think it would be cool to be able to watch movies on my iPod. If you travel and don’t want to take a portable DVD player, and DVD’s with you, you won’t have to. All you need is your iPod. Besides, I don’t think that Apple is trying replace TV’s and DVD players, just trying to give the people what they want–options. The Wi-Fi idea is hot though, and more useful than movies.
I’d watch a movie on an iPod, I travel a lot, that would be cool. The Wi-Fi stuff would be awesome to. I wish that’ll hurry up.
