Since Terrell Owens’ absence from an actual game since October 30, 2005 a great deal has happend. First he was banned from the Philadelphia Eagles, a choice that may have cost them the season. Then the media made him the biggest thing since the New England Patriots’ dynasty. Terrell became a household name rather you loved him or hated him. His antics almost eclipsed the 2005 – 2006 NFL season. He signed modeling contracts, endorement deals, and showed up on every mainstream news network. Now he has signed on with the Dallas Cowboys.
Speculation has it that Terrell will be doing the same things he has in the past, but no one knows for sure yet. Bill Parcels , head coach of the Dallas Cowboys, has high hopes for Terrell, but is not completely depending on him to carry the team. His high-profile beginning with the Cowboys was off to a smooth start until he hurt his left hamstring the first week of training camp. He missed 14 straight workouts. Then he practiced five times until aggrivating the injury the morning of Aug. 19. He is planning on playing in the Cowboy’s opener on September 10 against the Jacksonville Jaguars, but will he play in the final preseason game? Probaly not. Most coaches are taking a “better safe than sorry” approach. Terrell says, “I think I can get myself in good enough shape to play in a game, I know what I need to do. Obviously, timing is an issue, trying to get in there with the offense, trying to get in the flow. Once I get back on the field and start to break a sweat and kind of get in a rhythm, then I’ll be fine.”
Although two MRIs have shown no severe damage to Owens’ hamstring, trainers from the team and specialists on Owens’ payroll, have worked to alleviate pain in the soft tissue. Terrell doesnt think too much of being hurt, “it is just an unfortunate accident”. Along with his injuries he has also showed up to work late and was fined $9,500. He reportedly overslept. Terrell is not all bad, though, his record shows that he is a great receiver and make any team he plays for better, you just have to dig pass a thick ego to see it.
With Terrell Owens, Drew Bledsoe, Terry Glenn, Bill Parceles and the rest of the team, will the Cowboys of old live once again and rule the field?
