Looks like Sony has a slight problem. They can’t produce enough of the blue lasers needed for thier Blu-Ray drives. Sony is gearing up for a heavy push for the new storage medium so this may turn out to be a serious issue. As part of Sony’s plan to get Blu-Ray players inevery household, they are including one in every PS3 system. The hope is that PS3s will do for Blu-Ray penetration what PS2 did for DVD penetration. Sony has also said that they want to ship 4 million PS3 systems by the end of 2006. So how can they meet the projected numbers for the Playstation 3 and provide Blu-Ray drives in other electronics as well? Well, it looks like they just wont be providing Blu-Ray drives for anything other than PS3s. At least until they can be sure they can meet thier numbers. So if you were planning on buying a stand alone Blu-Ray player soon, you might want to prepare for a long wait.

I think it is kind of funny how they dug a hole for themselves that way. Something as simple as making sure they had the provisions to meet their goal before starting this big push on Blu-Ray players could have avoided their trouble.
very good.
