In an interview for the CBS program “60 Minutes” slated to air this Sunday, New Orleans mayor Ray Nagin fires off fierce opposition to the implication that the post-Katrina reconstruction is taking more time to complete than may be necessary. When asked why ruined buildings and water-logged cars still polluted the landscape he made remarks about September 11th delays in New York and the fact that five years later, there are still signs of the attack, namely the whole in the ground that has been named “Ground Zero” since it is the site where the World Trade Center towers collapsed. Nagin’s comments also insinuated that more government assistance was provided to the victims of 911 and their families than was offered to Katrina survivors and their relatives. More on the interview with Mayor Nagin is availble on MSNBC News. Footage from the interview can be seen here on the “60 Minutes” web site.
